The Buckeye Buoy Tour is back for it's FOURTH season in 2012.  The Tour has proven to be a winning combination of fun and competition and OWSA is very happy to continue sponsoring these great events!  Each 2012 Tour Stop will include the following:

  • A "Fun Format" Slalom tournament where skiers will be competing against each other based on handicaps.
  • All skiers will be guaranteed two rounds of slalom with the option to qualify for more.
  • All Tour Stops will include Trick & Jump on Sunday with a new head-to-head format in each event.
  • All Tour Stops will have announcers and serve lunch or provide concessions.
  • All Tour Stops will have Individual Awards for the winners.
  • All Tour Stops will include coaches in the boat for beginner skiers
  • All Tour Stops will utilize the new Ohio Novice Rule with Mini-Course
  • All Tour Stops will have online registration

SCORING

The overall tour will be scored as follows:

  • Each Tour Stop will award points to each skier based on their placement at the event similar to a collegiate tournament.  1st place will be awarded 500 points, 2nd place 490 points, 3rd place 480 points, down to 50th place and beyond which would receive 10 points. (Skiers are guaranteed at least 10 points)
  • At the end of the season, each skiers TOP 3 Tour Stops will be totaled for the final Tour Standings.  You are not required to ski a certain amount of Tour Stops, but you will need at least 3 Tour Stop scores to have a chance at winning the Tour and if you ski more than 3 stops, your lowest scores will be dropped.  Any ties for the Top 5 spots in the overall tour will be settled based on the skiers top performance at their best tour stop.

REQUIREMENTS

There are two annual memberships that you need to purchase to participate.  Both memberships can be used for much more than Buckeye Buoy Tour Stops and they're required for almost all organized ski events around Ohio.

1. USA Water Ski Membership - This membership is required for insurance purposes and there are a few different membership levels depending on your needs.  At a minimum, a $35 Grassroots Membership is required to compete in the Tour.  A full Active Membership is required to participate in the Jump event.  A USA Water Ski Membership will also give you access to waterski events across the country, additional insurance in the event of an injury, a subscription to the "Waterskier" Magazine, and supports our governing body for development of our sport on both public waters and professional waterskiing.  Click Here to get your USA Water Ski Membership

2. Ohio Water Ski Association Membership - This membership gets you access to all Ohio waterski events such as Open Lake Nights, Junior Development Clinics, Buckeye Buoy Tour Stops, Officiating Clinics, and full access to the OWSA website.  Click Here to get your OWSA Membership
