Extreme Head-to-Head
Cincinnati, OH
August 30th, 2008

***ONLINE REGISTRATION***

UPDATE - Do to high water throughout the season, our 2nd lake is in poor condition for slalom skiing and therefore we are forced to reduce our total number of skiers to 32 and we will be running the entire event on one lake.  All skiers will still be guaranteed at least 2 slalom sets and you'll have to ski your way into more!

Extreme will be experimenting with a new head-to-head format for their tournament on August 30th.  With a head-to-head bracket of up to 32 skiers (NCAA style), each skier will ski against an opponent to see who can post the highest score against their average buoy count.  With the losers going to a loser's bracket on Extreme's second lake, each skier will be guaranteed two rounds with the possibility of 6 should they advance through the bracket.  Here are the rules:

  • Brackets (Lake 1 - 98 pulls; Lake 2 - 74 pulls)
  • Skiers will be ranked 1 thru 32 based on average buoy count (from rankings list).  #1 seed will ski against #2, #3 vs #4, etc.  This will allow skiers to go head-to-head against skiers of a similar ability level for at least the first couple rounds.
  • Each Head-to-Head matchup must agree upon an equal starting speed and/or line length so that each skier reaches their "average" speed/line length on the same pass.  If skiers can not come to an agreement, then the slower speed/longer line length shall be used.  Remember, this is based on your average buoy count, so if "Skier A" has an average of 2 @ 34 mph and "Skier B" has an average of 4 @ 32 mph, then "Skier A" would need to have a starting speed 2 mph faster than "Skier B".
  • Skiers will go head to head. Lower seeded skier going first.  Each running their opening pass, then 2nd pass, etc. (Each skier can elect to ski until they fall/miss.)
  • If two boats of the same brand are not available for the round, the first skier off the dock will use the first boat back to the dock.  (This rule is to help eliminate down time)
  • Although you're skiing head-to-head, the ultimate winner will be the skier with the best buoy count compared to his average.  Because of the seeding, you will be skiing against a similar ability level for at least your first two rounds.  Because of the agreed upon starting speed, both skiers will be on their average pass at the same time.
  • There will be no run-offs. Any ties will go to the higher seeded skier.  Boat crew is not to relay previous skiers score to competitor in the water other than "full pass" or "fall".  This will ensure that the second skier does not have an advantage.
  • The losing skier in the first and second round shall move to the loser's bracket. (Every skier is guaranteed 2 rounds, most will get at least 3)
  • The winning skier shall move on in the winner's bracket.
  • If a skier skis over his average, then that score becomes his new average for the next round. (For example, if a skiers average is 3 @ 35 off 34 mph and he runs 5 @ 35 off, then 5 @ 35 off becomes his new average for the remaining rounds unless he improves on that score again.) This rule keeps everything more even as you advance through the brackets and you have shortline skiers coming up against kids and slower skiers who can greatly improve their buoy count from week to week.
  • The first 3 rounds of competition will be scored towards your AWSA rankings.  All following rounds will be for fun.
