There are some exciting new events in the works for 2010! Approximately 20 clubs around the state are working together to form a new initiative called "Open Lake Night". Participating lakes and clubs have agreed to hold two "Open Lake Nights" each year. Each club will provide a boat and a driver during these events and will open up their lakes to recreational skiers from across the state giving those skiers the opportunity to get behind competition ski boats with an introduction to some basic coaching including how to run the slalom course if they so desire. Initial details on the program can be found on the Open Lake page of the website. Participating clubs are still being finalized. Along with Open Lake Nights, the Junior Development Committee is working on 3 to 4 beginner/intermediate clinics to be held around the state and hopefully an advanced clinic. The Collegiate Development committee is working on two collegiate clinics for the season. The Buckeye Buoy Tour is back with 5 stops on the schedule for 2010 and one all new, never seen tournament format called "Pick Your Poison". The State Championship is going to be bigger and better this year with use of the new novice rule, a more festive banquet with the meeting being moved to Friday night, and a collegiate component including a scholarship to be awarded to one lucky collegiate participant! With all these great events in the pipeline, we're left with one major obstacle to make them successful...MARKETING!!! Our best way to market these events is at the BOAT SHOWS which are right around the corner and the only way to make it happen is if we ban together and everybody does a little bit to help. Most of us will be hitting up one of the boat shows at least once over the next month and I'm asking people to volunteer to hang out at the show for a few hours while you're there and just talk about waterskiing and the opportunities for skiers to get involved with these great events. The plan is to get a little space in one of the ski boat dealer booths where we can have an OWSA sign and hand out flyers. Below is a list of boat shows with date and time slots. Please reply to this email and volunteer to cover a time slot. (It will make it much easier if you volunteer so that I don't have to call 100 people trying to fill the slots. 4 to 6 slots in each of the major metro areas should not be hard to cover.)
