The 5th and final tour stop on the Buckeye Buoy Tour capped off a great inaugural season for the new Ohio tour! The Extreme Head-to-Head for the second year in a row proved itself to be an outstanding format with each head-to-head bracket keeping the excitement flowing throughout the day. Unlike many of the other BBT formats, there are no qualifying rounds in the Extreme Head-to-Head. Skiers went head-to-head straight off the dock with the winner advancing and the loser going to the Last Chance Bracket for one more chance to continue on in the tournament.
In the Sweet 16, Nick Perrino defeated Laura Boehm, Richard Boehm defeated fellow UC skier Jacklyn Woniger, tour leader Sarah Rosenblum took down another victim in Jon French, Phil Woniger took out his second UC skier of the day in Greg Hudepohl, Jeremy Nussbaum beat Brian Spinneweber, Jason Anderson bettered the score of Phil Pointer, Andrew Baker defeated Pat Ewald, and David Miller beat Greg Kuenning to advance to the Elite 8. Meanwhile in the Last Chance Bracket, Casey Thress, Chris Kennard, Matt Wolff, and Dave Back in the Elite 8, Nick Perrino was navigating his way through the field on jump skis with a win over Richard Boehm, Sarah Rosenblum was finally knocked out of the winner's bracket by Phil Woniger, Jeremy Nussbaum defeated Jason Anderson, and David Miller edged out Andrew Baker by just 4/10th of a percent. Jason Anderson went on to qualify for the Final Four in the Last Chance Bracket along with Laura Boehm, Matt Wolff, and Casey Thress. The Final Four in each bracket was now set with Nick Perrino vs. Phil Woniger and northeast Ohio skiers Jeremy Nussbaum vs. David Miller in the Winners Bracket.
Saturdays events were capped off with a great banquet sponsored by Extreme Watersports Center with awards, music, and a bunch of good food. Thanks go out to Extreme and it's members for putting on a great tournament. Stay tuned for video interviews from the Head-to-Head to be posted here in the next couple days! |

Round 1 saw some good matchups such as fellow UC skiers Richard Boehm vs. James Russo, Big Gun Runner-up Anthony Warren vs. BBT leader Sarah Rosenblum, and UC President Brad Ruff vs. UC slalom coach Phil Woniger. Richard edged out James in their matchup, Sarah Rosenblum continued her BBT dominance taking down Anthony Warren, and coach Woniger proved to have Ruff's number. 16 skiers were left standing in the winner's bracket after Round 1 and the remaining skiers moved to the Last Chance Bracket.
Young pulled it together for a win and advancement into the final eight of the Last Chance Bracket. Laura Boehm and Greg Kuenning would also pull together another win to make the final eight in the Last Chance Bracket.
In the Last Chance Bracket, Jason Anderson and Matt Wolff advanced to the finals where Matt Wolff set a personal best skiing into 22 off for the first time in a tournament and secured a 5th place finish in the tournament. In the Winner's bracket were the Final Four skiers competing for the win. Phil Woniger proved to be too much for Nick Perrino running into 22 off for the first time that day. Jeremy Nussbaum, skiing in M3 for the first time, ran 6 @ 28 off 34 mph to take down David Miller who wasn't able to run 38 off in a stiff tailwind off the dock. The finals were set for a showdown between Phil Woniger and Jeremy Nussbaum! Phil ran his opening pass of 15 off 34 mph but Jeremy was unable to keep his stellar day going as he fell just short of 6 ball on his opening pass. Phil went on to run another 5 @ 22 off and skied away with the Extreme Head-to-Head title. This was the first time Phil qualified for the finals of a Buckeye Buoy Tour Stop and in his words, "The best skiing he had ever done in a tournament".
